Shot in 2011, this documentary series captures the life of the Amahuaca communities living along the Inuya river deep in the Peruvian Amazon.
Fifty years prior, Magnum photographer Cornell Capa documented these same communities culminating in the publication of a book called Farewell to Eden. The premise of the book being that the Amahuaca were at the brink of extinction and the onslaught of Western Euro/American development.
In this retrospective series the images aim to reveal the nuances of modern day Amahuaca life and their tradition where concepts of old and new, traditional and modern, blend into one another not following a linear timeline. The influence of the Western World within their territory is rife, but what the communities choose to appropriate determines how their identity is forever being negotiated.
